Next month, sculptures will honor the town’s farm history. The sculptures are part of the MARK-IT trail in Spalding. The Spalding and District Civic Society leads this. They got £43,000 for this from a UK fund.

The sculptures will bring sheep and cows back to town. The unveiling is on March 15th at 11am. Hall Place hosts the celebration with events. Artisan stalls, live music, and art await. The Lincoln Red bull and cow will decorate New Road.

Society chairman John Bland hopes tourists like them. These recognize the town’s old livestock markets. He’s excited that the project is succeeding. These sculptures will improve the town and could attract more visitors.

The society has placed other statues in town before, including the Hiring statue in Hall Place and the Portrait of a Town figurines. A sheep sculpture goes in Sheep Market. Six sheep sculptures go there, and they are Lincoln Long Wool sheep. White Cadeby Limestone makes these sculptures.

New Road will feature a bull and cow. These are Lincoln Red cattle. Red sandstone composes the massive figures, and they weigh over 12 tonnes.

Graeme Mitcheson made the sculptures, and he feels honored to link past and present. He wonders how people will react. The group got help from Transported Arts, and South Holland District Council also gave support.

Nick Jones directs Transported Arts. He said the sculptures show Spalding’s proud past, and he hopes it brings people together. He hopes it sparks interest in the town. Graeme made detailed, impressive sculptures, he noted.

Sir John Hayes, MP, will unveil the statues.
