Spavens sweet shop donates pancakes and prizes for the annual Mold pancake race, a free and fun community event.

Spavens makes strong pancakes. These pancakes must survive tossing and drops. They have worked hard on the batter over time, taking years to perfect it.
Their pancakes now hold up well. Alan Spaven, who co-owns Spavens, said they support Mold events because they are a local business. Pancake races bring people together and give everyone a fun time.
The pancake races happen March 4th, starting at 2pm in Daniel Owen Square. You can join that day from 1:30pm. Don’t worry if your team is not full, other runners will happily join you.
Racing and watching are both free. They provide pans and aprons, and pancakes are also provided. Everything is there for the runners.
The race rules are very simple. Teams of four must run and aprons must be worn by each person. Each person runs one square length, tossing the pancake three times, then passes the pan and apron.
Each team member does this once. The teams are timed during the race and the fastest adult team wins a prize. The fastest kids’ team also gets a prize; Spavens provides prizes for both.
They must toss the pancake correctly. Mold Town Council organizes the races. Jane Evans, who works for the council, said the races have run for 18 years.
They hold it during the school term. This allows local schools to join, and kids and adults have lots of fun racing. She added that it’s a popular event.
Locals, businesses, and schools all participate. People come to cheer on the racers and they hope to see you there that day as well.
