North Yorkshire schools to see speed limit reviews aimed at boosting safety for children and local communities.

They are also working on 16 other locations. Lower speed limits should appear there soon. A large 20mph zone is planned for Harrogate schools too.
Councilor Keane Duncan said this effort improves safety. They will check over 400 locations countywide. Schools with the highest speeds get attention first. Fourteen schools have 60mph limits nearby. Reducing speeds there is a high priority.
They will review schools with lower limits next. This includes 50mph, 40mph, and 30mph zones. The council will make new plans for lower speeds. They already reviewed community requests too.
Schools and local members are consulted on plans. Councilor Annabel Wilkinson is glad that the council reviews schools. Reducing speed limits should cut accidents. She urges drivers to respect the new limits.
Appleton Wiske’s headteacher, Neil Clark, is happy about the change. People worried about accidents near the school. Students talked about safety in assemblies. The new 20mph limit will help everyone.
The council will review every road’s speed limit network. They will not impose blanket 20mph limits everywhere. They want a custom plan with community input. They will review all roads in towns and rural areas.
The council will do this in stages. This approach needs extra resources and investment. They want a consistent plan for setting all local speed limits. This includes strong community input and oversight.
