A service in Stamford commemorated three years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, featuring refugees and local community.

Rev Lorraine Wright, an associate minister at St George’s Church, led the service. Ukrainian refugees now living in Stamford shared moving words.
The Sunflowers Choir, directed by Mike Tymoczko, a music teacher in Belmesthorpe, sang songs, including the Ukrainian National Anthem. Scott Coe and Caroline Avnit read poems.
Yvette Diaz Munoz organized the event, emphasizing the importance of remembering the war. “The war hasn’t gone away,” she stated, believing it is everyone’s war.
People placed daffodils, symbolizing Ukraine, on the memorial. Ukrainian community members then marched through the town centre, waving flags and carrying signs.
Liuba Shevchenko, fifteen years old, fled Ukraine with her mother, Olena. “What’s happened is unforgettable,” Liuba said, expressing her desire for people to understand. Marc Kukh brought a flag.
