Julia Ohela joins Stamford Town Council, representing St. John’s ward after a vote following David Scammell’s resignation.

Julia joined the council at a meeting Tuesday night. This 32-year-old will represent St John’s ward. Several other councillors also represent this ward.
Julia is originally from Finland. She moved to Stamford three years ago. Before that, she lived in London. Her partner got a job nearby in Peterborough, and they both loved Stamford.
She once worked at the Cornish Bakery. Now, Julia works for a transport institute. She has also volunteered at local charities, including Second Helpings and Stamford Foodbank.
Julia said Stamford felt different from London. She liked Stamford’s strong community feeling very much, adding that people truly care for one another.
Four people wanted to join the council after David Scammell resigned. Julia competed with three other candidates. Each person gave a short speech, and the current councillors then voted.
Julia told the council about her interests and stated she wants to help with events and the environment. She hopes to make events appealing to younger people.
The council chose Julia in the first vote. In her free time, she enjoys reading books. Plus, she is a member of Fusion Fitness.
