Kamryn Cairns and Kerris Brawley sang beautifully, achieving runner-up status. Stella McIntyre played the clarsach amazingly and won Young Musician of the Year.
Judges Fraser Anderson and Phil Gault felt humbled. Stella’s playing captivated the audience with music that had great character.
Kamryn sang “Burn” from Hamilton, then performed Adele’s “Remedy.” Kerris sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and the Bond theme “Skyfall.”
Provost Anthea Dickson enjoyed seeing the talent and congratulated all the musicians. She praised their parents, schools, and community, also thanking the Music Service and teachers.
Dickson remembered Stella’s past performance and noted the clarsach is an old Scottish instrument. Stella’s talent filled the room, and her hard work paid off, Dickson declared.
The judges praised the soloists’ strong voices and liked their character portrayals. Technical skill enhanced the music greatly.
Ronan Watson leads the North Ayrshire Music Service. He noted the “girl power” of the finalists and congratulated all of the talented performers.
The showcase brings music teachers together to help young musicians grow. Watson thanked Claire Haslin, the accompanist, and appreciated the judges’ time.
The musicians handled the stage well, making Watson feel very proud. North Ayrshire Council’s Music Service organizes it yearly in partnership with school music departments.
Stella will now compete nationally, representing North Ayrshire in Glasgow. The final is May 25 at the Royal Conservatoire.
