A mysterious sticky white substance has washed up on Bournemouth beaches, sparking public speculation and expert investigation.

Online, people are guessing what it is. Some think it’s white paint, others believe it’s palm oil. Nobody knows for sure just yet, as they haven’t confirmed any guesses. They asked experts for details, including the Environment Agency and others.
Someone found the substance on Saturday on Southbourne Beach. She said it felt really sticky.
Patricia Heath reported it on Saturday, February 22nd. She found it at Alum Chine during a walk and had to wash her clothes afterwards. Her daughter got it on her feet as well, and she said it smells bad.
Julie-Anne Houldey also reported it. She saw the substance at Hengistbury Head on Sunday, February 23rd.
Someone said BCP Council thinks it’s paint. It’s supposedly from Southbourne to Hengistbury, which would be a big problem. The Environment Agency should check it out. Another person mentioned it smells like PVA glue.
Palm oil can make dogs very sick, though it usually won’t kill them. Being an oil-based product, it can cause Pancreatitis in dogs. If a dog eats palm oil, they might get sick and experience diarrhea and dehydration. Contact a vet immediately if you’re worried.
