Bridge Street car park in Stourport is closing permanently on February 16 due to failed development plans.

The council got the land from Lloyds Garages a while back. They wanted to make a fancy entrance to the canal basins. Sadly, it didn’t pan out as hoped. The council says the parking permit ends soon. It ends on February 16th, actually.
They’re putting up a barrier to close it off. The council claims this car park was always short-term. They also think there’s enough parking still. They believe other car parks can handle it. So losing this one isn’t a big deal, according to them.
But, Stourport Civic Society stepped in. They got community asset status for the car park. This happened after the council planned to sell it. The society proposed their own plan, get this.
They want shops, leisure, and apartments. The plan included 14,000 square feet of space. Plus, 22 apartments. The society also wants to improve the basin area.
This means new paths and boat moorings. They also want to widen Engine Lane for better access. It will make things safer for everyone.
