Police vans with camera tech are in Ipswich today for a joint Suffolk and Essex operation. Public engagement is encouraged.

Suffolk and Essex police are working together. They put up posters in town. The posters say they are using the camera tech. They want people to ask them about it. The police ask the public to check out the tech.
They uploaded a list of 300 wanted people. This list helps with current investigations. If cameras spot someone on the list, their face gets outlined. The red outline alerts police to that person.
The cameras on the vans check both sides of the street. They don’t keep photos of people not on the list. No one’s photo is stored on a computer database. An officer said they want you to see the tech. Opening the van lets you look inside.
The tech allows police to be more efficient. The tech helps them past their own ideas. One time a camera spotted a surprising suspect. This led to important questions.
Police want to show they care about your privacy. They talk to people and let them look inside the van. They spoke to about 80 people already.
