Sutton Bridge Parish Council is exploring the possibility of installing CCTV cameras to improve safety and reduce crime.

These cameras may watch key areas, with one potentially facing Railway Lane near the Curlew Centre, and another focusing on Bridge Road. The goal is to discourage crime in these specific areas.
Council member Michael Booth believes this would help, suggesting it could make people feel safer when walking around at night. He noted an existing bridge camera already controlled by the county. He must now provide the council with a map and consider prices for new cameras, as the parish council will decide if they will pay.
Currently, some CCTV exists locally, with shops and homes having private cameras, and authorities providing others. Bridge Road, however, lacks dedicated CCTV coverage, making it the council’s first consideration as they work to figure out the project’s total cost.
Fellow council member Chris Brewis supports more cameras, believing they would reassure residents and offer mental comfort. He also expressed his desire for more action by the police.
The plan’s cost inevitably impacts local taxes, potentially increasing the parish council precept. This comes after news of police funding issues, with Lincolnshire Police facing cuts that may result in the loss of 200 officer jobs.
