A teenager, Harry Parker, was hit by a car. This happened November 25, 2022, on Akers Way, just before his 15th birthday. The driver allegedly did not stop after the incident.

Ivy Mwangi was arrested soon after. She is a carer from Redhouse. Mwangi was charged in March 2024.

In November 2024, all charges were dropped. The Crown Prosecution Service cited a lack of evidence, stating that it was unclear if the crash was avoidable and that they did not think her driving was careless. Charges for driving without a license, driving without insurance, and careless driving were also dropped.

Harry’s parents honored him on February 22. Adam and Kelly Parker unveiled a football pitch at Moredon Sporting Hub, named for Harry, who played football there before its renovation.

Adam thanked supporters before the unveiling. He extended gratitude to family, friends, North Swindon MP Will Stone, and Central Swindon North Parish Council.

Adam described the experience as humbling and expressed appreciation for the remembrance of Harry, adding that Harry loved football. He felt naming a pitch for him was fitting and encouraged everyone to play with spirit and have fun.

Adam explained that the pitch would serve as a lasting memory and that Harry would be “really proud” of the honor, noting that Harry made people happy, stood up to bullies, loved having fun, and was a good soul.

On February 4, MP Will Stone presented the Harry Parker Bill. If passed, the bill would equate driving without a license with careless driving. Parliament has voted to move the bill to the next stage for a second reading.

The Parkers aim to increase road safety awareness and have seen support from parents and the community. They hope to connect Harry’s legacy with road safety initiatives.

Adam stated their desire for safer routes to schools, advocating for assessments of crossings and speed limits, as well as the implementation of traffic wardens where necessary.

They propose using Moredon Sporting Hub’s car park for drop-offs and opening school gates for easier access to avoid busy roads. Adam suggested this could be a model for other schools.

Adam said the support they’ve received is comforting. They rely on local support and hope it continues for the safety measures. They will keep fighting to change existing laws.
