Allan Lewis, 81, was found dead at his Swindon home. He was remembered by his brother as a caring and sensitive man.

The inquest happened on March 3. Ian Singleton, the coroner, led it. Allan had a history of mental health issues. These included anxiety and depression. He was born in Cheltenham back in 1942. He lived in Wiltshire most of his life. He moved from Malmesbury to Swindon.
Paul said Allan was sensitive and caring. Allan cared for their dad for years. Their dad died in 1992. Allan struggled with grief after that. Allan had a tough childhood. He didn’t share many details with Paul.
They talked weekly on the phone. Allan always said he was fine. Paul had no reason to worry. Their regular calls stopped around June. This was shortly before Allan’s passing. Paul last saw him two weeks prior. He called the police around 12:45 am on July 16.
Police arrived at Allan’s house at 12:58 am. The bungalow was dark with no signs of activity. All doors and windows were locked up. Officers needed to force entry into the house. They found Allan deceased in the hallway.
Paramedics arrived at 1:11 am. They confirmed that Allan was deceased. Allan’s doctor last saw him on July 8. The doctor described Allan as an anxious man. Allan lived alone but used medical services.
Allan took antidepressants at times. He worried about side effects. He restarted citalopram in June 2024. Doctors checked his heart health, too. This made him anxious. Coroner Ian Singleton ruled it a suicide.
