Swindon council struggled to find streets meeting trial rules for the parking ban, despite approval and nominations.

This came after a policy committee idea. They pushed for cracking down on sidewalk parking. Guess what? None of the nominated streets got a trial.
A council person said no applications met the rules. The Build a Better Swindon committee made those rules. The council will explain this to the councillors. They can then send in new applications later.
The plan favored areas with public concern. It also wanted resident support for the ban. Resource impact should stay within budget too. Councillor Matt Vallender asked for an update recently. This happened at a policy committee meeting.
Vallender was happy about the trial idea’s approval. He and other Tory councillors suggested areas. He’s unhappy none of the trials will happen. He said the council didn’t even talk to him. They didn’t check about need or info.
He thinks about safety for vulnerable people. This includes disabled citizens and parents with kids. He knows sidewalk parking is a huge problem. He works with Swindon Guide Dogs. He will keep fighting for resident priorities.
