Swindon will repeat Christmas recycling day changes after a successful trial to prevent holiday pileups.

Swindon Council called the changed schedule a success and says they will do it again next Christmas. Councilor Chris Watts said it stopped 40,000 missed collections, a significant improvement given that there is more waste during the Christmas holidays. The new setup helped the council manage the increased waste, boosting efficiency and service reliability a lot.
To support operations, they added four extra recycling trucks to supplement the regular trucks. The schedule change also saved money, with the council saving about £100,000 dollars compared to the year before.
The council ensured residents were informed about the adjustments. People with wheelie bins got bin hangers, and blue bag users received postcards. Residents can also find collection days online by entering their postcode on the council website.
Missed collections dropped a lot last Christmas, with the council reporting an 88% reduction. Councilor Watts thanked Swindon residents, stating that their support made the change work well.
He believes repeating this is smart because it helps residents recycle and prevents collection backlogs. Furthermore, crews can enjoy their holiday break too.
The changes managed holiday recyclables effectively. The council will reflect on the changes and plans to announce Christmas 2025 plans soon, aligning with making Swindon greener. They will keep checking the changes’ results and improving their services.
The council will share future holiday collection plans later. You can also find your collection day online.
