Swindon continues aiding Ukrainian refugees with visa extensions via the UPE scheme, offering ongoing support and caseworker assistance.

The government made an announcement about visas. Ukrainians who fled the war can now apply for extensions. This started on February 4th. It uses the Ukrainian Permission Extension scheme or UPE. These visa extensions allow Ukrainians to stay in the UK.
They get another 18 months. They must apply 28 days before their current visa ends. The council helped all Ukrainians after the war began.
Each person got a caseworker. This helped them adjust to living in Swindon. Payments for host families will keep going when visas extend.
However, the amount will change next April. It drops from £500 to £350 for each host. A council person said they will help around 300 people.
These residents sought refuge in Swindon. They’ll get help extending their visas. The Warm Welcome team will contact people.
They will support those who can extend their stay. The team has supported all arrivals since the war. Caseworkers give one-on-one assistance. They help with transitioning to life here.
