Amy Beavis will run the London Marathon for Pancreatic Cancer UK, after her mom passed away from the disease.

Amy’s mother got pancreatic cancer in January 2022. This charity means a lot to Amy. Her mom was 69 years old then and very fit and healthy. She never smoked or drank alcohol.
Her mom also had no warning signs. Then, she got cancer and found out on January 12, 2022. She woke up with jaundice that day. The family knew a little about the disease.
A friend’s husband died from it after only living six weeks after diagnosis. They panicked after mom’s diagnosis. Surgeons at Great Western Hospital helped. They opened her blocked bile duct.
She had all available treatments including a new radiotherapy trial held in Oxford. The treatments gave the family more time. She went to Weymouth with her family including her husband and dog, Scamp.
Sadly, her illness worsened later. She chose to enter Prospect Hospice in April 2024. Her family stayed with her for four weeks. She passed away on May 18, 2024 and the family’s hearts were broken.
Amy signed up for the London Marathon. She did so the day her mom entered hospice. Pancreatic Cancer UK is the marathon’s charity this year, which is perfect timing for Amy. Amy got a marathon confirmation call then.
It was also the day she got her mom’s ashes. Amy felt her mom helped her get in because she needed something to focus on. Amy is actively fundraising for the cause.
She held a Christmas fair and raffles. She also organized cake sales for support and has a big event planned for March 22. The event is called The Butterfly Ball.
It will be at the Village Hotel in Swindon. It will include food, drinks, games, and music. The Butterfly Ball offers fun activities.
