Demolition has begun on the former Lava Lounge nightclub in Swindon to make way for new flats and shops.

The old nightclub has struggled since then. A developer, Tunley Properties, planned to rebuild it in 2021 and wanted a six-story tower.
A fire broke out in November 2024. Over 50 firefighters responded, but about half of the club burned down. Following the fire, police arrested a teenager.
Stuart from Wroughton took new photos in February 2025. They show that demolition is happening, and the club is almost unrecognizable. The photos clearly show the site’s current condition.
The rebuilt building will have both shops and flats. Two shop units will be located on the ground floor, with twenty-five flats situated above them. Each floor will house five flats.
There will be three one-bedroom and two two-bedroom flats. In addition, a communal outdoor deck is planned. Behind the shops, there are plans for five parking spaces and bike storage that will hold 29 bikes. Residents and staff can use these amenities.
Tunley Properties said their design fits the area and enhances the street’s overall character. They also added that the apartments ensure good living conditions and will not negatively impact neighbors.
The redevelopment uses the site’s full potential while also considering the character of nearby buildings. Also of consideration is a guarantee that it does not harm nearby homes.
The change interests some local residents. Others remember Swindon’s past nightlife with fondness. One person recalled driving in Swindon around 2005, which they remembered as Lava Lounge’s peak. He remembers long lines for cabs.
People went to Lava Lounge or other clubs. Pubs and clubs generally had queues those days.
