A 16-year-old boy drowned in Burnside Lakes near Cambridge after trespassing with friends to swim on a hot day.

Dishone told his mom he was going shopping and swimming. He didn’t mention it was in some lakes. Apparently, he and about 30 friends trespassed there. The lakes are private property and are guarded by fencing. His friend Michael said they knew it would be hot and knew about the lakes for swimming.
He said they went through a gap in the fence. They even climbed another fence with a bent spike. A security guard saw them and told them to leave. However, they didn’t listen to the request. They were jumping off cliffs and floating in the water.
Then, Dishone tried to swim to a platform. He got halfway and started to panic. Michael saw him splashing and then went underwater. Other swimmers tried to help him, and they called for an ambulance. Sadly, the water was too murky to see him.
His body was found the next day. It was more than six meters deep. The security guard called the police earlier, before Dishone went into danger. He was told it wasn’t urgent, and he got stuck on hold.
Dishone’s mom said she doesn’t blame anyone, but she noted others have drowned there. She thinks the lake should be drained. She believes it could prevent future deaths. The coroner said there was good security fencing and patrols.
She thought the guard did the right thing by calling police. She ruled that Dishone’s death was an accident; he simply drowned. She mentioned he might have had heart problems, but doctors checked and found nothing. The coroner offered her deepest sympathies. She said it was a truly awful tragedy.
