Thames Water admits to over 1200 hours of sewage discharge into Berkshire waterways. Spills impact multiple streams sparking concern.

The first spill started in Winterbourne on January 23. It began at 5:15 pm. Winterbourne Stream is affected in West Berkshire. The stream has seen 645 hours of discharge.
Another spill started in South Moreton on February 3. It began at 9:30 am. Mill Brook is getting sewage, and it’s over 300 hours of discharge already. This affects Berkshire waterways.
Thames Water has plans to upgrade South Moreton STW. They want better sewage processing. This should cut down untreated spills during rain. The design isn’t done yet, but they hope to finish by 2026. They expect to meet targets by 2040-2045.
Also, the River Pang has a big sewage spill. It started at Hampstead Norreys. The discharge began February 12 at 10:45 am.
Thames Water also plans to upgrade another area this year. The project helps to improve sewage treatment overall. This should mean fewer spills in wet weather. Groundwater reduction work should finish by the end of 2025. They will keep investigating the area to help with long-term planning.
