Havering Council will decide on demolishing The Alderman pub for town centre redevelopment this Thursday.

The council report says they will likely approve it. The report also says The Alderman will move to a temporary spot in Harold Hill District Centre. Later, they’ll build a new, permanent pub.
The committee needs to approve the plan, but demolition can’t start right away. First, they need a temporary location ready in Harold Hill District Centre. They also require a “fit-out schedule” and a “marketing and lease strategy” for the temporary pub’s location.
The report states a permanent pub must be part of the area’s future. The Alderman might get knocked down, as planners marked it for demolition last August. However, it has stayed open for customers. The pub opened back in the 1960s, and about 80-100 regulars visit weekly.
The demolition is part of a bigger plan to redo Harold Hill town centre. They want to build 138 new affordable homes near Chippenham Road, Kings Lynn Drive and Dartfields. They will also talk about the homes at the meeting.
