Ayr’s newest craft destination thrives. Artists create a community hub, showcasing local talent and welcoming tourists.

Vanessa said they sold crafts after visiting markets around Scotland. They often transported slate and glass items, making setup and packing difficult. The pop-up shop was a success, creating a feeling of welcome in the area, which soon inspired a desire for a permanent shop.
The artists run the shop and receive support from nearby businesses. Vanessa emphasizes that The Crafty Coo aims to be more than just a shop—a destination offering classes and demonstrations with special events and competitions on the horizon.
The first glass workshop sold out quickly, and additional workshops are being planned. They aim to attract both locals and tourists. Many shop visitors are tourists exploring or rediscovering Ayr, visiting even in January. Customers have come from the USA, Germany, Zimbabwe, and Ireland.
The business has many future plans, and Vanessa expresses gratitude to everyone for their support. Classes, occurring regularly, include art, crochet, glass fusing, and decoupage art.
Supporting other makers is important to them; they offer space for other businesses to show off their work, prioritizing local makers. This supports the community and helps new craft businesses grow.
They have ideas for the space, planning themed events like art shows and fairs. The Coos feel welcome on Sandgate, supported by other local businesses.
The Treehouse is a popular spot across from the shop. Café Ginger keeps the Coos well-fed, and Scott from Photo Studio Ayr provides invaluable printing support.
Starting a business now is challenging, but they have faith in Ayr’s kindness and believe things will work out.
