Janice Nix faced charges Tuesday. These charges relate to Andrea Bernard’s death. Andrea was five years old. She suffered burns and went to a hospital back in 1978.

Andrea initially got treatment in Croydon. Later, they moved her to a specialist unit in East Grinstead. Sadly, she passed away on July 13, 1978. Her injuries caused her death.

Nix lives on Rodenhurst Road in Clapham, a place in southwest London. She went to Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. The court learned disturbing details. On June 6, 1978, Andrea was forced into a scalding bath, and fifty percent of her body suffered burns.

Nix also faces another accusation involving cruelty towards Andrea’s brother, Desmond Bernard. The alleged abuse occurred from 1975 to 1978 when Desmond was eight years old.

Nix’s age was between sixteen and nineteen during the time of these alleged events. She is 66 years old now. She spoke briefly in court, verifying her name, age, and current address.

Nix wore a navy blue hoodie. The court read the charges against her. The Metropolitan Police started their investigation in 2022 after Mr. Bernard, now an adult, reported the incident, prompting the police to act.

The court released Nix on bail. She must surrender her passports and cannot go to international travel hubs. She must appear at Isleworth Crown Court; her next court date is March 19.
