Thurso is launching monthly Repair Café sessions at The Greenhouses. These sessions aim to reduce waste by fixing broken items.

The Thurso Community Development Trust runs it, aiming to help the environment through this newest sustainability project. Waste reduction is a key goal.
The Greenhouses community gardens, located near the town’s tennis courts, will host monthly Repair Café sessions. These sessions restore household and garden items, avoiding sending them to landfill.
Sessions occur on the last Saturday of each month from 2 PM to 4 PM. Expert volunteers fix people’s damaged goods, bringing the items back to working order.
The Trust hosted repair events before, in 2023 and 2024. Due to their success, they are now making it a regular event.
The gardens team’s Sharon Dismore expressed her excitement to host the monthly Repair Cafés. She stated that they teach basic repair skills to the community, enabling people to extend the life of their items and reduce waste.
Each session will focus on different themes. In March, they’ll have a seed and plant swap, supported by Plantlife and Far North Seed Savers. Gardeners can get tools sharpened or have broken tools repaired. Coffee and cake will also be available.
“The Repair Shop” is a BBC show where craftspeople fix items thought beyond saving, bringing treasured things back to life.
