Older and younger residents joined together from Langton Herring in Dorset. They made videos together, with older folks speaking about their pub using Generation Z slang.
The Friends of Elm Tree Inn made viral videos where residents shared gossip and talked about shutting the pub down. They tried to charm people and asked for donations to save it.
Each video received many likes, and the campaign brought in lots of money. Donations came from over 30 countries, with Americans showing great interest.
The group now has £520,000 in donations, which will let them buy and reopen the pub. They’ll bid on Monday, and more loans will make up the rest.
Nick Carroll, a villager, said people see rural England with its country pub with history.
Sir Barnes Wallis visited the Elm Tree, drinking and staying there while testing his bouncing bomb nearby, a bomb used in the Dambusters raid.
