The council plans to change speed limits on roads. They will lower limits on Usk Road and two sections of Varteg Road. Lower limits affect B4246 Abergavenny Road and Forgeside, too.

Usk Road’s new 40mph limit starts at Horse & Jockey Roundabout. This limit then goes 457 metres southwest. Varteg Road’s limit starts 123 metres from Salisbury Terrace and this section goes 604 metres north. The new 40mph limit covers another 648 metres, going northwest from Varteg Road.

Forgeside’s limit starts at B4246 Varteg Road junction. This limit then extends 669 metres northwest. Abergavenny Road’s 40mph zone starts 62 metres north of Rifle Street’s junction; this restriction goes for 496 metres north.

Some 40mph limits are going away. Newport Road will no longer have this limit, and Llantarnam Park Way will also lose its 40mph zone. This change affects 68 metres from the roundabout.

Limits are also removed from Llantarnam Road and St David’s Road. Avondale Road will also change. These changes follow legal rules, and the council consulted the police.

These changes modify an existing traffic order. Updated maps display changes. You can object to these plans by sending written objections by March 5, 2025.

State reasons for your objection in writing, and send them to the council. You can email the Traffic team too at Orders.Legal@torfaen.gov.uk, and the proposals are on the council website.

These changes manage traffic and keep roads safer. The council will review objections, and after review, they will make a final decision.
