Bridge work causing delays near Rigg could continue until mid 2025. Locals seek a clear timeline.

Locals are upset about the traffic and the traffic management east of the village on the B721 near the bridge. They find the delays annoying and long and need a clear repair timeline.
The Community Council asked MSPs for help and wanted them to step in quickly. Repairing it is not simple, as the project affects both the road and the walkway.
Last August, a Rigg resident spoke out, feeling the issue wasn’t a priority. He noted that the base is eroding and washing away, and surface fixes won’t solve this. He fears more road could collapse and wants to know the repair plan.
This week, the Council shared their road plan and are finishing the design now. The project site is east of the village at the bridge over Kirtle Water, and next, they will hire the right contractor.
Repairs should start around April or May 2025 and are planned to finish by late June or early July. The work includes the bank, path, and road, and the roads team will watch the site weekly, monitoring the traffic and safety.
