Tykes Restaurant updated itself with a new menu. It’s located at Sandburn Hall, near York. The restaurant also has a greener kitchen now. One thousand solar panels power it.

Sandburn Hall covers 1,000 acres and includes a hotel with forty bedrooms. There is also a golf club and a function room. Tykes is part of all this.

James Hogg, a director at Sandburn Hall, said Tykes is popular in the York area. Locals and visitors love it.

Tykes has been successful for two decades and has loyal customers. The anniversary seemed right for updates, and they wanted it to match the hotel style while keeping Tykes’ original charm.

The redesign mixes old and new styles, blending oak barn features with modern touches. Rachel McLane, an interior designer, led the work, and she updated the dining and bar areas.

Rachel said the goal was harmony with the hotel. She created a relaxed vibe using unique lighting and ceiling designs. Earthy colors and booth seats complete it.

The restaurant layout improved with glass walls, and they added sliding doors. An extended kitchen includes a redesigned counter.

Mark Hudson is the head chef at Tykes. He created a new menu of Yorkshire dishes, offering breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea, with dinner also available. A tasting menu has six courses.

The new menu includes several choices. Starters include game terrine and mushroom tart. Duck breast and salmon are main courses. For dessert, there is chocolate torte and affogato.

Tykes’ new kitchen is eco-friendly. Gas appliances are gone now, replaced by new electrical ones. Solar panels power all appliances and produce electricity for everything.

David Holmes explained the project benefits, stating that the kitchen reduces their carbon footprint. They use less gas now, as solar panels provide much of their power.

They installed battery storage too, which stores unused power. This ensures existing habitats stay safe, and the storage has a 1MW capacity.
