Road raising proposal for flood defence in Upton-Upon-Severn is rejected due to lengthy closure concerns.

Everyone agreed not to raise the road right now, though. A councillor named Martin Allen felt a little bummed and wished they could do more about the flooding now.
An engineering firm called Jacobs made a report, which included ideas to stop the road from flooding. Raising the road was the first idea and the committee included town and county council members. The Environment Agency and an MP were also there, but raising the road would close it for over 300 days.
The committee thought that was too long because businesses would really suffer from that closure. They decided to wait on that option and will revisit it if climate change makes flooding worse there.
The committee also dropped a soil bund idea and want a better solution to raise the kerb. The kerb will go up by about 100-125mm. The council agreed last May to install a new drain to prevent water from coming up the Hanley Road drains.
Councillor Allen is happy with the agreed work, as it should make some difference to local flooding issues. He’s still a bit disappointed they cannot do more, thinking that with climate change, they will have to revisit this. He feels the work is a when, not an if, situation.
