Paul Hyland’s van broke down near Faversham on the M2. He waited for roadside assistance on the hard shoulder, worried about the danger of the motorway. He called his dad to pick up his daughter and dog.

While Paul waited alone, a car crashed into his van. The impact sent his van off the road and into trees. A woman was arrested for suspected drunk driving and later released while police investigated the incident.

Paul said his van broke down coming from Broadstairs beach. A woman hit him while he awaited recovery; he wore his seat belt because there was no safe place. The crash shut down the M2’s London-bound lanes.

Paul feels grateful his daughter and dog weren’t there, believing someone could have died. His seat belt prevented major injuries, and firefighters freed Paul from the van.

Emergency services took Paul to the hospital. Police responded to the crash around 6:42 PM between junctions 6 and 5. Two people received treatment for injuries at the scene and then went to the hospital.
