High Life Highland needs volunteers to support children with disabilities. More sports access and opportunities are wanted.

Bryan Stevens has volunteered for over ten years, working with groups like Scottish Disability Sport. His passion is basketball, and he wants Highland kids to play sports, believing everyone deserves a fair chance. Bryan says volunteering is rewarding. He gained skills in various sports and is now qualified in basketball and wheelchair racing, also possessing first aid knowledge. He feels proud seeing athletes involved.
Marisa Mustard also volunteers, helping with swimming and multi-sports. She sees the benefits for young people who meet others, develop skills, enjoy being active and having fun in a safe space. High Life Highland wants to be inclusive, believing everyone deserves to be active, and that disability sport needs more attention, because Paralympians started somewhere. Volunteers create these vital opportunities.
Highland offers many sports regularly, including football, swimming, golf, bowls, athletics, and dance. Sessions and other opportunities are common, and multisport events are also available. Fiona Green, who works for High Life Highland, said their Active Schools network is good, getting more kids active more often. She thinks they could do more disability sports if they had more volunteers to help.
Volunteers are needed from all over who love sport and kids and can encourage young people’s confidence. It only takes an hour a week, and training will be provided. Alison Thompson, who helps coordinate Highland Disability Sport, commented that their events need many volunteers to operate. They seek passionate people to get involved, ensuring people with disabilities can play.
They strive to reach all of Highland, making volunteers across the region vital. Clubs offering inclusive sessions are helpful, guaranteeing that everyone has a chance to exercise. The athletes are enthusiastic and eager, attending events with excitement but hosting events regularly is hard because there are not quite enough helpers.
