Thousands were caught speeding in Wales last January, after a 20 mph limit was introduced on residential roads.

GoSafe data shows speeding trends. Last month, they watched 19,914 drivers and found 1,214 went over 20 mph. December 2024 saw 1,123 of 24,871 exceeding the limit.
November 2024 had 1,434 of 24,403 drivers speeding. A GoSafe person spoke about “Operation Ugain.” Police use speed equipment for this operation to stop speeding drivers.
Drivers can choose a chat or get points and a fine. Drivers can skip the chat and get a ticket, but some speeders cannot get the chat option and will be prosecuted right away.
Fire and Rescue Services give a free talk that lasts about ten minutes. They explain the new speed limit, share the reasons for the change, and teach people how to find 20 mph zones.
