Wallingford in Bloom aims to make the town greener. It is a community project that started two years ago with the goal of entering Britain in Bloom, a Royal Horticultural Society contest. They compete in the Thames & Chilterns region.

Last year, nine gardens earned regional recognition and Wallingford in Bloom won a silver gilt award. The town also won for community involvement, while Castle Gardens earned silver gilt for its open space from the RHS parks award.

The town also did well in other awards, called It’s Your Neighbourhood awards. Small groups can join this national effort, and six Wallingford groups were marked as thriving, with one more group deemed advancing.

Organizers want new volunteers to help, and the next meeting happens on February 13. Wallingford in Bloom has made progress as volunteers care for the green spaces, seeking others to join their working group to take the project to the next level.

People wanting to help can contact Steve Holder, a town council member. You can find more online about the group; check out their website.
