The Bell pub in Walthamstow stays open after a fire damages the front entrance. Investigation underway.

Police are investigating the fire’s cause, trying to determine if it was deliberate. Dave Morrish, who lives above the Bell pub, woke to the fire around 4 a.m.
Dave and five team members evacuated safely, ensuring their pets were also out of harm’s way. Firefighters soon controlled the situation, and Dave is thankful the fire didn’t spread, considering most of the pub is wood, including the floors, bar, and furniture.
The destroyed doors, which were new two months prior, cost “thousands.” The Bell reopened after 12 p.m. on March 1st; however, fewer fire exits mean reduced capacity now.
Before reopening, The Bell posted online that everyone was safe, including staff and pets. They also thanked everyone for their support.
Grace Williams reacted to the fire, expressing concern about the Walthamstow pub. She noted that emergency services extinguished the fire quickly and that no one suffered injuries. The Bell is a loved pub locally, and many residents are shocked by the damage.
Firefighters went to the pub around 3:57 a.m. on Saturday morning, and the fire was out by 4:43 a.m. Six people exited the building before they arrived, and fire damaged a small part of doorway at the pub.
