The town’s council tax will go up 4.98 percent. This includes a two percent rise for adult social care. The council approved the new budget for 2025-26 at a meeting.

Denis Matthews said this budget was very tough. He mentioned high service demand and a funding problem for local councils. He says the budget focuses on vulnerable people first. Looking after people costs over 70p of every pound spent.

Council tax does not even cover those care costs. Think of children, families, the elderly, and homeless people helped. Grass cutting, potholes, bins, and parks also need funds.

Matthews states they still made a balanced budget. For 2025-26, council tax rises by 4.98 percent in Warrington. A Band D home will pay £1,867.79 only to the borough council. This is £88.60 higher than in 2024-25.

Adding police and fire services, the total is £2,239.82 for Band D homes. This applies if there is no parish council involved. That total is £107.60 more compared to the prior year.

If a Band D home exists within a parish council area, the total is £2,281.40. This final amount is £110.30 higher than the previous year’s cost as well.
