Hertfordshire County Council made some changes. The Waterdale Recycling Centre will close two days weekly, and an online booking system starts. You need a timeslot booked online.

The council says costs will drop, and they expect to save £300,000 across the county. Campaigners worry about the impact.

The recycling center is now always open, operating seven days each week. People fear more illegal dumping will occur.

Stephen-Giles-Medhurst leads Three Rivers District Council, and he said they strongly objected to this plan. Watford and St. Albans councillors also objected.

The new rules might exclude some people, as online access is not universal for residents. People often must make many trips.

He thinks fly-tipping will become worse overall, and the costs could surpass expected savings. He previously called the plan “stupidity.”

The council says weekend access remains available. Closing days will vary across sites, as sixteen sites exist in the county.
