Ceredigion may raise taxes less due to a Welsh Government funding boost. A smaller council tax increase is possible.

The government announced a 3.8 percent funding floor, applying this to all Welsh local authorities. Ceredigion initially planned a 9.9 percent tax hike. More Welsh funding is expected to lower taxes for residents. Ceredigion’s initial funding rose 3.6 percent, and the new announcement boosts it by 0.2 percent more.
The council has requested more money next year as well. They asked for at least 4.3 percent in 2025/26, which could lower a tax increase by about two percent. The 3.8 percent funding increase should lower the initially proposed 9.9 percent hike, but a final decision is expected in March to establish the final tax increase amount.
The government’s financial support extends beyond general funding. They are allocating five million pounds to parks and another five million to centers, focusing on enabling energy efficiency improvements.
Mark Drakeford discussed the recent agreement. He expressed his belief that collaboration leads to achieving more significant results. Furthermore, Drakeford emphasizes that rural areas will particularly benefit from this investment.
