Locals object to HS2’s lorry access plans for a Dobbins Lane chamber, citing pedestrian and road safety risks.

The chamber will manage water from springs and release it into waterways, helping to regulate water flows. However, Wendover residents object to HS2’s access plans and oppose the chamber’s immediate construction. A planning application is expected to be submitted to the Council soon.
David Cobb, a Dobbins Lane resident, argues the plan is unsafe, endangering pedestrians and road users. Locals initiated a petition opposing HS2’s lorry plans and quickly gathered 550 signatures in 10 days, aiming for a total of 1,000.
HS2 states there could be a maximum of 12 lorry trips daily for three weeks, with the overall work lasting 12–14 weeks. Most days will see five to eight lorries. Despite this, residents remain concerned about safety.
David emphasizes the plan’s impact extends beyond Dobbins Lane. Lorries will navigate small streets near South Street and cross a difficult roundabout, an area he claims has numerous near misses. He notes Dobbins Lane is already congested.
David recounted his wife’s involvement in a three-vehicle accident there last year. He believes accidents are common and stresses the importance of people’s lives. Seb Berry finds the plan unbelievable, echoing residents’ concerns since early 2024.
He challenges anyone to assess the route’s safety for heavy lorry traffic over three months. Berry believes the Council should have intervened earlier to reject the plan.
HS2 aims to minimize disruption and manage Dobbins Lane access safely. They say only one HGV will be allowed on the lane at a time, with a 20mph speed limit and traffic flow controlled to avoid school hours.
HS2 maintains that HGVs and bin lorries already use the road and they do not believe their traffic will pose additional risk. They assert HS2 traffic will be managed effectively and won’t harm walkers or cyclists.
