A £61m investment program for West Lothian, focusing on property, schools, roads, and outdoor spaces is being proposed.

School projects will receive £25 million, with St Kentigern’s Academy, Craigshill, and East Calder Primary set to receive major work. Developer funding adds over $15 million more, covering Winchburgh, Calderwood, and Bangour schools. West Calder High School will also get a big addition.
Over £6 million is allocated to roads, footpaths, and street lighting. Bridges and flood prevention will also receive funding, with improving roads specifically costing £2.2 million. The A70 and A89 roads will gain investment, as will the B9080 and C1 roads. Armadale residential streets will also be upgraded.
More than £3 million will be invested in outdoor spaces, sports facilities, and cemeteries. Boghead cemetery will get an extension next year, and Fauldhouse cemetery will also be extended at a cost of about £200,000.
ICT assets will receive £2.6 million, with schools getting nearly £1.5 million for devices, including laptops and smartboards. This aims to improve student success. Play areas are getting over £1 million with plans to refurbish district parks and specific projects at Dixon Road and Stoneyburn. Westrigg will also see improvements.
Around £1.8 million is allocated to other projects, including Boghall Skatepark and an upgrade to Watson Park’s games area. This allocation also covers tree management and ash dieback.
This is part of a larger plan involving investing $201 million in infrastructure and council properties, including housing, between 2026-2033. Capital funding is one-time-only money that helps upgrade existing assets or build new ones, covering buildings, schools, and roads.
The $61 million is for 2025/26 only. This is in addition to last year’s $68 million. Government grants, selling assets like land, borrowing, and other sources create capital funding. This funding goes to the local authority for specific projects.
