Hey, guess what happened with e-scooters? Back in April, West Mercia Police made a big announcement. They said officers would grab e-scooters they saw. This action came after some bad behavior incidents.

A police community support officer explained the reasoning. He stated they are taking strong action and are seizing all e-scooters they find. E-scooters are viewed as motor vehicles right now.

To ride one legally, you need insurance. However, getting insurance for one is impossible. This approach has led to many e-scooters being seized. Police actually grabbed a lot of them.

In 2024, they seized 109 e-scooters total. This happened in Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Worcestershire areas. South Worcestershire officers grabbed 39 of them; it’s been a busy year.

The West Mercia Police shared some info. The government is doing e-scooter trials. These trials study the impact on different things, looking at pollution and road safety.

Until the trials finish, there aren’t rules for using your own scooter. So far in 2025, officers kept seizing them. Three scooters got seized just recently by the Droitwich West team.

This was on Tuesday, February 4th. Three teenagers rode them in a supermarket aisle, and the officers caught them.

A Droitwich West spokesperson gave details, stating they got reports of kids riding scooters around Droitwich’s center. They also rode in local supermarkets.

The teenagers thought supermarket aisles were for e-scooters apparently. So, after the police took their scooters, they walked home instead.
