A “Christians Together” group had a meal in Minehead. Fifty-two people attended on January 25th. The meal showed how the world shares food. Some have plenty, while others struggle.

Six people were picked for the “top table.” They ate a three-course meal including soup, chicken, and dessert. Others watched them eat, only getting water, highlighting issues with access to clean water. The rest then got soup and bread.

Tim Woods shared poverty facts, asking about poverty rates in 2024 where forty-four percent of people live in poverty. He led a role-play activity where people acted as groups from a village, discussing ways to improve life. Priorities differed among the groups.

Top table guests felt awkward, having plenty while others had little. One wished to give their spot away, realizing how unfair things are. Choices exist for some but not for all. The event gave them much to consider.

CTiM organized the event, led by Jane Hayes and the food prep team. The Methodist Church offered their hall. Raising over £900 from guests who paid £10. They subsequently sent the money to Christian Aid.

Christian Aid helps after disasters and assists communities to improve. They primarily work with local groups.

Danesfield School athletes participated in Somerset Pentathlon events. These included archery and boccia, as well as seated slalom. Everyone joined in and played well with stand out moments of accuracy demonstrated during archery and bowling.

Danesfield’s netball team won their games in the Taunton Area championships. They didn’t give up any points during their performance. Their teamwork was excellent as they passed and shot with precision during their games.

Danesfield’s hockey team played Minehead Middle School. They showed improved skills during the match. The team achieved this due to regular practice sessions.

Danesfield’s Year 7 boys won their County Cup game. They beat Castle School during the competition. Oakley and Harry both played very well in the game.

Monksilver Gardening Club is planning a busy year with speakers, outings, and events scheduled. Ian Anderson, a local photographer, will present “The Nature of Somerset.” The event is March 4th at 7 pm at EMN Community Hall.

Watchet Community Cinema will show “Freud’s Last Session” on February 28th. The movie shows Freud and C.S. Lewis debating God, and it explores their lives. It starts at 7 pm with tickets costing £4.

The Porlock Library Poetry Group meets monthly and created a book called ‘Through the Library Window.’ This book has poems and photos. It costs £6.99, with proceeds going to the library. New members are welcome to join the group.

Elworthy Cottage garden is open as part of the Snowdrop Festival on February 25th. The garden features snowdrops and hellebores. Many birds visit the garden where tea is available. Dogs are allowed on leads while visiting.
