The West Somerset Railway is set to host steam and diesel galas in May and June, featuring visiting and local engines.

Steam engine No. 2807 is coming for the May gala. It will run Friday, May 2, to Monday, May 5. This event celebrates 200 years of railways. Many locomotives of different types shall attend. The railway will be very active during the gala. Trains will run from morning until evening.
People can explore many stations. They can ride behind different engines. No. 2807’s visit was moved from last year. It came with help from preservation groups.
Built in 1905, it’s the oldest working engine. It will run all four days. The engine last visited in 2011. It wore green then, but now it is black. No. 2807 will pull a 1940s goods train. It will also haul passenger trains. It arrives next month, working before and after the gala.
Other engines coming are Bahamas No. 45596 and Fenchurch No. 72. Several train types will operate. This includes passenger, parcels, and express trains. You can secure steam gala tickets online at any time.
The diesel festival runs June 5 to 8. Visiting engines and local ones will be there. The Diesel and Electric Preservation Group maintain the local fleet. The railway will offer a busy schedule.
Passengers can change trains easily. They can ride behind great diesel engines. Some trains go past Bishops Lydeard. They will run to Norton Fitzwarren.
Sunday will mix steam and diesel power. Children’s tickets will cost just one pound. The DEPG depot will be open in Williton. Donations will help restore old machines. The list of visiting diesel engines isn’t ready yet. Diesel festival passes are available for online purchases.
