Someone asked police about Asian gold thefts. They used a Freedom of Information Act request. It covered West Yorkshire thefts since January 2021.

Police data shows some trends over time. There were seven thefts in 2021; the gold was worth £28,600. Eight thefts happened in 2022. They involved £51,200 worth of gold.

The year 2023 saw 112 thefts, with gold worth £422,083 stolen. 2024 had 133 thefts; the value was £547,852. This year, there have been 17 thefts so far. The value totals £54,250.

Police noticed more gold thefts in Bradford. Fifty-eight burglaries happened since July 1, 2024. Asian gold got stolen from south and west Bradford. Last year, only eighteen burglaries occurred during the same time period.

Police arrested twelve people for the burglaries. All twelve got released. They are under investigation. The police are still looking into things.

A police inspector spoke about the rise in thefts. The inspector believes the suspects use e-bikes and might also use cars. They target houses to find the gold. The inspector asks people to report anything suspicious. The suspects break door locks to get inside.

The police want people to improve home security. They suggest using anti-snap locks on doors. Secure all windows and doors properly. Keep jewelry locked away. A good safe away from home is recommended.

A local councilor spoke about her worries. The councilor said gold value is rising and these kinds of thefts are also going up. The stolen items have great meaning for families. They are often heirlooms or wedding gifts. Families suffer psychological trauma from the burglaries.
