Survey work for the Grimsby to Walpole project substation is underway, sparking concerns from a local resident.

National Grid said surveys help understand the ground. They look at the area’s engineering and also check environmental issues. Construction can’t start without permission, and an application hasn’t been filed yet.
Pennington thinks it will ruin the view and believes the area becomes industrial. Many energy projects are planned for Lincolnshire. The Grimsby to Walpole project uses pylons, which will run from Grimsby to Walpole.
Pennington calls the changes awful and offered her house to an energy official. The land is good for growing crops, and she questions food security for the future. Pennington says pylons are old and mentions using solar power.
Another substation exists at Bicker Fen. One is planned at Surfleet Marsh, too, for the Outer Dowsing project. National Grid says plans are in early phases, and surveys at Weston Marsh help them learn.
The information informs project plans, and public input will shape these plans. They will share the plans later this year. Construction only begins after planning permission is granted. Drilling rigs are near Pennington’s farm.
Several projects are either planned or happening, including wind farms and power projects. Pennington worries about the roads and construction and wonders how long recovery will take.
