Stewart Perry avoids sentencing in Newbury because proper equipment lacked for transport and holding due to his wheelchair.

Perry, age 44, lived in Newbury. He was convicted of dangerous driving in High Garden and other areas, using an MG car on November 7, 2023. He also damaged a Woodlands View home, with the damage exceeding £5,000.
Perry initially denied both crimes. However, the court found him guilty after a trial. He also admitted using violence, forcing his way into a High Garden home on September 13, 2023.
Perry used abusive words that same day, targeting Emily Green and others. The court learned he made a death threat. The judge mentioned other driving offenses, including driving with a disqualified license and failing a drug test.
Perry had prior convictions. In 2016, he received a Criminal Behaviour Order for aggressive shoplifting from stores. He intimidated staff during these incidents and often stole items of great value.
Despite everyone being present, the judge postponed sentencing. A prison sentence seemed likely for Stewart Perry, but the court’s holding cells weren’t suitable to accommodate his mobility issues, and transport vehicles to prison were unavailable.
The judge wanted all charges addressed together, including the Magistrates court cases. Sentencing is now set for April, when officials will arrange suitable transport. Perry remains on bail with driving restrictions.
