Richborough’s 600-home proposal near Whippendell Wood sparks over 600 objections citing damage to nature and infrastructure.

Documents were added to a planning website, allowing public commentary until February 18. Six hundred thirty-five people objected, while four residents supported the plan.
One objecting person voiced concerns about damage to natural beauty and wildlife. They also noted the potential worsening of infrastructure issues. Another person said more cars will clog roads, specifically roads near Croxley Green, including Durrants Drive and Baldwins Lane.
Whippendell Wood is a protected scientific site. A Richborough spokesperson, speaking to a newspaper earlier, described the plan as a high-quality, sustainable neighborhood.
The spokesperson added that it offers green spaces and community facilities. They claimed Croxley Green needs affordable homes, and this plan responds to that need.
Planning officers will now review the proposal. A Three Rivers planning committee will likely decide on it subsequently.
