Whitby’s Fish Quay receives £660000 for vital repairs aimed at restoring mooring space and supporting local fishing.

The Fish Quay is Whitby’s main fishing spot, where boats land their catches. The lobster hatchery also calls it home. It’s in bad shape right now, and because of its condition, it isn’t working.
Workers will replace steel piles and oak fenders. A barge will deliver these from the sea. The repairs will fix mooring space, and about 200 meters will be usable again. This helps meet harbor income goals.
Councilor Mark Crane spoke at the meeting, saying the quay needs work done and that he is happy about the money for improvements. It supports fishermen and the fishing trades. Tourists visit the quay all year.
The council voted to approve the funding, which comes from unused funds in the environment department budget. Usually, only fishing boats can dock there, but other boats can wait there for space, waiting for spots in the upper harbor.
