Plans seek to convert the White Horse Inn, closed in February 2024, into six apartments. An offer to buy remains open.

Joules Brewery said it lost money operating it as a pub. Six different people ran it from 2015 to 2024, each struggling to make a profit. To retain a tenant, the brewery lowered rent and beer costs.
Joules and Asquith Development Ltd sent in the request which outlines a plan for six apartments, with two apartments on each floor. The plan remakes the White Horse Inn, changing it from a pub to six flats.
The remodel keeps the building’s shape and follows the old structure. They will fix the outside walls and windows, incorporating insulation upgrades as part of the fix. The inside needs remodeling for the flats, with plans to add floors and walls while saving key features like coving and fitting new walls around the old features.
The back has a big garden that is ideal for shared spaces and can include bike storage and bins. This area stays a common outdoor space, improving the town center courtyard with seating and plants, which can boost residents’ health.
The request mentions that a group wanted to buy the pub, but Joules confirms they can still buy it. They tried to inform the community about the White Horse Inn’s future, as the building has been for sale for a while and Joules talked to a group keen to buy it. Joules gave the group two options: one was a non-profit, and the other was a local share company, but the group hasn’t decided yet, so the offer is still open.
They will also write to local residents and people involved. The letter will explain the flat conversion plan. The letter states that the group can still buy the pub. A solution is needed because of the building’s state, with little interest in the pub as a working business prompting Joules to inform the group about the conversion request.
