Developers commit to funding road work on Wilton Rise, Holgate. Includes bridge replacement, addressing residents concerns.

McLaren Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate hosted the event, which took place at the Guildhall complex. Representatives answered questions from people and showed future plans for the 45-hectare site.
The discussion covered Wilton Rise’s future. They also spoke about the Victorian footbridge that crosses the railway at Cinder Lane’s end. The Wilton Rise footbridge will be demolished, and a new bridge will replace it.
Arlington’s Allan Cook said they will resurface Wilton Rise, which has many potholes. The current pedestrian bridge will be removed and replaced with an accessible bridge. It will end near the community garden at Upper St Paul’s Terrace’s end.
Holgate councillors shared updates with residents. They said much work remains, including talking to owners and defining the work. A legal process is also needed.
They aim for a better route using Wilton Rise, fitting the improved Wilton Rise Bridge. Network Rail will redevelop the bridge as part of York Central’s development. Most of the road is privately owned, and the City of York Council does not maintain it; owners of each section are responsible.
A planning application goes in September. It seeks to replace the footbridge. Phase one includes a new station entrance, and a large hotel is also planned. The entrance will be at the railway station’s back. Plans may be submitted later this year, and if approved, work could start in 2026.
