Wine World Expands: New Bridport Shop Opens on South Street

Wine World now occupies a building on South Street in Bridport. It was previously a Weldmar charity shop. Julian Packer, 59, and his wife Amanda run the shop. She is in her 50s. They are a family.

Julian always looked in Bridport, loving its unique charm. Buying the South Street shop, with its prime spot downtown, was a great deal. So, he decided to buy it.

He describes Bridport as energetic, with many independent stores. They think they will fit in. A wine shop once existed downtown, but now it’s gone; they think they fill a need. People seem happy about it.

Wine World began in Honiton nearly 40 years ago. Then, they opened a shop in Topsham, Devon. People travel far to visit, seeking vintage wines and unique bottles. Bin-end wines are also popular.

Bottles range from £5 to over £50, with rare ones costing even more. They consider themselves a local, family business. Julian feels Bridport shares those values. Wine World opened today after renovations on the old Weldmar shop.

The Weldmar shop has moved to East Street, last month. The new shop looks better; it is easier for customers to move around. It is brighter and has a new layout with new fixtures.
