The town plans themed markets to draw more people downtown. These markets aim to boost the area’s activity.
Terry Jordan announced market dates; a farmers’ market will occur on March 16. “Minis in the Market Place” is set for March 23.
Wisbech has a new cleaning contract which covers the marketplace area. The initial contract lasts two years and started on February 10. Things look good so far.
Allotments are doing well, but waiting lists still exist for plots. Bonfires were banned due to complaints, as many councils don’t allow them either. The Environment Committee made this call last July.
Now, the bonfire ban is less strict; fires are allowed, but controlled. You can only use an incinerator bin, and burning is permitted two weeks each March and October.
This spans from 9 AM to 5 PM. Only burn dry materials, not waste.
The Christmas fair team meets on March 4 to plan the December 14 event. Jordan mentioned the Unsung Heroes Awards; the ceremony happened on January 15 and was a huge success.
The town and Royal British Legion are planning something for VE Day’s 80th anniversary. It will be in Wisbech Park on May 8, starting at 5 PM. Expect music and fun.
The park cafe has a new owner, and reopens on March 2.
